Global environmental trends changed dramatically after the Paris Agreement in 2015 and the adoption of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) by governments. What kind of society and economy will Japan pursue in these new times? The policy being developed by the MOE (Ministry of the Environment) is known as the “Basic Environment Plan”.
Countries around the world face extremely difficult challenges in decreasing their greenhouse gas emissions in the second half of the 21st century. Japan is currently committed to reducing its greenhouse gasses by 80% of current levels by 2050; however, this is an extremely high hurdle to overcome.
